E-orange customers demand refunds

E-orange customers have sought refunds from the e-commerce company by September 20.

They raised the demand at a human chain protest in front of the National Press Club on Friday.

A group of customers protested in front of the E-orange office at Gulshan around 10am. From there, they went to the press club. Around 300 customers gathered on the road there.

Afzal, a customer, wondered what the Bangladesh Bank and commerce ministry been doing? “They should have monitored these companies. If we want to keep Tk 10,000 in
banks, we have to provide national identity cards and other documents. And here, crores of taka are lost but nobody cares,” he said.

Customers also shouted slogans against e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh at the human chain, blaming it for their situation.

Kamruzzaman, a customer, said, “We went to E-orange’s Gulshan office at 10am. We came to the press club after police obstructed us. Our only demand is to get our money back by September 20. Otherwise, we will go on hunger strike.”

Earlier, customers of E-orange lodged a case of embezzling Tk 1,100 crore against its owners at the Gulshan Police Station.

On Thursday, the VAT intelligence filed a case against E-orange for evading value-added tax worth Tk 13 lakh.
