Litterateur Buddhadeb Guha dies

Bengali novelist Buddhadeb Guha who authored many notable works such as ‘Madhukari’ (Honey Gatherer) died from post-Covid complications at Belle Vue Clinic in Kolkata on Sunday night.

He was 85.

Buddhadeb was hospitalised recently with lung and urinary tract problems. He died around 11.30 pm on Sunday due to post-Covid complications after a massive cardiac arrest, his family told Indian newspapers. Earlier in April, Buddhadeb was detected with Covid-19 and was admitted to a hospital for over a month.

Buddhadeb is survived by two daughters. His wife Rabindra Sangeet exponent Ritu Guha died in 2011.

A chartered accountant by profession, Buddhadeb was one of the most popular writers who created the popular children’s character Rijuda and his sidekick Rudra, who explore jungles.

Many of his novels and short stories were themed in nature and forest. He is best remembered for his novel Madhukori which is considered a milestone in Bengali literature.
