Pori Moni gets bail in narcotics case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday granted bail to actress Pori Moni after a hearing in a case lodged under the Narcotics Control Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh passed the order at 2:30pm, confirmed Additional Public Prosecutor Tapas Paul to The Business Post.

Pori Moni was on remand for seven days in three phases.

She filed a bail petition with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court challenging the lower court's rejection of bail in the case filed under the Narcotics Control Act on August 22.

Judge Imrul Kayesh fixed September 13 for hearing on the bail petition then.

Earlier, the High Court issued a rule on August 26, asking an explanation by September 1 why the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court should not be directed to hear and dispose of Pori Moni's bail appeal within two days.

Earlier on August 4, Rapid Action Battalion detained Pori Moni from her Banani flat in Dhaka and seized huge amount of foreign liquors and different drugs.
