Prof Dr Syed Saleheen Qadri, scientific coordinator of the Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives (ideSHi), died Wednesday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

He was the husband of scientist Dr Firdausi Qadri, emeritus scientist at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research (icddr,b), who won this year’s Ramon Magsaysay Award Tuesday.

AKM Tariful Islam Khan, media manager of icddr,b, confirmed the matter, saying Dr Saleheen breathed his last around 4:30am on Wednesday at Universal Medical College and Hospital in the capital.

Prof Saleheen had been ill for quite some time. He even tested positive for Covid-19 and later recovered from the infection after treatment, he added.

Dr Saleheen Qadri was a retired professor of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department of Dhaka University. He was also the dean of the Faculty of Biology at the university.
