Shipbreaking yard worker dies in Chattogram

A worker died in an accident while working at Khawaja Shipbreaking Yard at Sitakunda in Chattogram on Wednesday noon.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Taslim, 30.

Confirming the matter Abul Kalam Azad, the officer-in-charge of the Sitakunda police station, said Taslim was seriously injured while working at the shipbreaking yard. Later, he was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Abdullah Al Sakib Mubarrat, deputy inspector general (Chattogram directorate) of Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishment said, “We visited Khwaja Shipbreaking Yard after receiving the accident news.” 

A notice will be issued in this regard to the shipbreaking yard authority, he added. Khawaja Shipbreaking Yard authorities could not be reached for comments despite repeated attempts.
