2 Rohingyas remanded over Mohibullah murder

A court in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday placed two suspects on three-day remand each in a case filed for murdering Rohingya leader Mohibullah.

Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order around 11:30am after the Rohingya suspects — Mohammad Selim alias ‘Lomba Selim’ and Shawkat Ullah — were produced before the court.

Chandan Kumar Chakrobarty, inspector of the court, said police on Saturday evening produced the two before the court and sought seven days to grill them under their custody.

The court, however, set Sunday for the remand hearing after sending them to jail, he added.

Earlier, the Armed Police Battalion arrested Selim on Friday while police apprehended Shawkat on Saturday in connection with the murder of Mohibullah. The law enforcement agencies have arrested four people so far over the murder.

Unknown assailants gunned down Mohibullah in his office at Kutupalang camp in Ukhiya on Wednesday night.

Mohibullah’s brother Habibullah on Thursday night filed a case with Ukhiya police station, accusing unidentified people of killing his brother.
