1 held with adulterated baby cosmetics

The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday night arrested one person with adulterated local and foreign brands baby cosmetics, from Old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area.

“The arrestee was identified as Monir Hossain,” DB Assistant Commissioner (Lalbagh division) Md Fazlur Rahman confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

“Acting on a tip-off on Monday, we got to know that a tenant of a house at Haji Billu Road under Chawkbazar police station was running an illegal factory and making adulterated baby cosmetics, mainly talcum powder, lotion and shampoo,” he added.

Later, a team conducted raid at the illegal factory and arrested Monir, the official said.

At the time, 1,080 pieces of fake Johnson & Johnson baby lotion, 432 pieces of fake baby talcum powder, 600 pieces of fake baby shampoo and a machine for making adulterated cosmetics were recovered from his custody, he added.

He also said that police is now investigating where the arrested person was selling these products and who were the buyers to take legal action.

Meanwhile, police sources said these fake products are basically sold in rural areas across the country.
