The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate have seized 120 gold bars, weighing 13.92 kg in total and worth around Tk 9.74 crore, while being smuggled through tissue boxes of a Biman Bangladesh aircraft.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, CIID officials said, based on secret information, a Biman flight – BG-4048 – was searched after arriving at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Dubai at 4:16 pm on Tuesday.

During the search, six suspicious bundles were found in the lower chamber of the tissue chamber used in the washroom 3F-1LC of the aircraft and in the fused storage chamber of the 3F-1RC.

Later, 120 gold bars of 13.92 kg were found from these bundles after they were opened at the customs baggage counter of the airport.

The seized gold bars have been deposited at bonded warehouse. A departmental case and a criminal case are in the process under the Customs Act, 1969.
