Bangabandhu Satellite-2 will be launched into space within the stipulated time, said Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar on Thursday.

He said in addition to this, the Posts and Telecommunications Division had started implementing the promise the government had made to the nation in the election manifesto to launch the 5G network and connect with the third submarine cable, which is under construction.

The minister was addressing a discussion on the second anniversary of the subscription of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 by the country’s private satellite TV channels organised by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited at a hotel in the capital.

“With the launching of Bangabandhu Satellite-1 into space, we have not only achieved the glory of being the 57th satellite launcher in the world but have also been providing uninterrupted satellite services with technological support by our local talents for the last two years,” he added.

Jabbar said 2021 was the year of transformation of Bangladesh into Digital Bangladesh as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s declaration on December 12, 2008.

He noted that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had sown the seeds of Digital Bangladesh, including establishing a satellite centre in Betbunia, acquiring memberships of the International Telecommunication Union and the Universal Postal Union, establishing the T&T board, and introducing technology-based education.

Thanking TV channel owners for broadcasting through Bangabandhu Satellite, the minister said, “We are all proud to be able to use our

country’s satellite. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all preparations have been completed for the country’s second

satellite launch within the stipulated time.”

He emphasised friendly relations between Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited and television channels.
