CAAB security guard held with 9.28kg gold

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate on Saturday arrested an assistant security guard of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, and seized 80 gold bars weighing 9.28kg from under his belt at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport.

Making the disclosure in a press brief at CIID headquarters in Dhaka, its Director General Md Abdur Rouf said, “We initially learned that Belal Uddin – the arrested security guard – had collected the gold bars from an airport toilet. It was wrapped in three yellow packets.

“We had earlier received a tip off that gold will be smuggled through the Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-148 – which travels between Dhaka and Dubai. To intercept the gold, CIID officers had taken up positions at various points at the airport.”

He continued, “Noticing the presence of intelligence officers, a CAAB security guard began acting suspiciously. While attempting to flee, Belal was chased down and arrested by the CIID.
