Digital flood forecasting, warning system to be introduced today

A digital and advanced flood forecasting and warning system will be launched through a programme at ‘Pani Bhaban’ in city’s Green Road area on Monday.

State Minister for Water Resources Colonel (Retd) Zaheed Farooque will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural function to be organized by the ministry there, a press release said here on .

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid and Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem will attend the programme as special guests. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources Kabir Bin Anwar will preside over it.

The Ministry of Water Resources has developed an advanced flood forecasting and warning system in collaboration with the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), the Access to Information (a2i) Programme and Google to deliver flood forecasting and warning messages on android smart-phones via push messages or notifications within a shortest period of time, the release added.
