Businessman Ferdous Khan arrested in Ctg

Police arrested entrepreneur and businessman Ferdous Khan Alamgir from the port city Chattogram on Wednesday.

Ferdous – a former director of the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) – is known as a leading importer of consumer goods and an entrepreneur in the transportation and real-estate sectors.

Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge at the Kotwali police station of Chattogram Metropolitan Police, said law enforcers arrested Ferdous from the port city’s Laldighi area in a case filed over defaulted loans.

According to court sources, Ferdous had allegedly taken out a loan of about Tk 17 crore from the Khatungonj branch of City Bank Ltd through his firm Ferdous Traders.  The total amount of this loan with interest is now around TK 33 crore.

The bank filed a case against the businessman in 2012 after he reportedly became a loan defaulter. The businessman recently returned to Bangladesh after staying abroad following a decline in his businesses, sources said.

In August 2019, Meherun Nesha, 50, the wife of Ferdous Khan Alamgir and the chairman of his company Baghdad Group, was arrested after returning home from Canada.
