Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Saturday said he will send a letter to the Chief Justice for seizing the power of the judge who pronounced the verdict in the Raintree hotel rape case as the judge’s recommendation is illegal and unconstitutional.

In the verdict, the judge recommended the police to refrain from registering a case if a rape victim comes to the police station after 72 hours of the incident.

In this regard, the minister said he would like to clearly say that the Judge’s observation over refraining from receiving a rape case after 72 hours of the incident is completely illegal and unconstitutional.

He said that is why he would write a letter to the chief justice over the matter.

The minister made the remarks while talking to journalists after meeting commemorating Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder on the Supreme Court Bar Association office premises.

“Advocate Abdul Baset Majumder was a lawyer for poor people. His contributions to the arena of law will always be remembered,” he said.

Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad and Baset Majumder’s family arranged the meeting followed by doa mahfil.

Awami League Presidium Member and former Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim, former minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, Attorney General and Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Amin Uddin, AL Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Najibullah Hiru and High Court Division Justice Justice Md. Abu Zafor Siddique addressed it, among others.

Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad Convener Senior Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun chaired the meeting which was moderated by Dhaka South City Corportation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.

Abdul Baset Majumder’s son Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Sayeed Ahmed Raja sought doa from all for his father’s eternal peace.

Speakers at the memorial meeting said Baset Majumder acted as as indispensible guardian of all in the arena of law.

Majumder showed the path to how to work for people, they said adding that Baset Majumder had outstanding contribution to build the new building for Bangladesh Bar Council.
