Five killed in Bogura plastic factory fire

At least five workers were killed as a fire broke out at a plastic factory at Santahar of Amidighi in Bogrua on Tuesday.

The identity of two workers are - Shihab,30, son of Lutfar hailed from Komol Dogachi of Santahar and Shahjahan, 29 hailed from village Shandira of Sariakandi, so far have been verified by the factory authority. The identity of the other victims could not be known.

"The fire broke out at around 11:30am, following an explosion of gas cylinder which was kept inside the factory," said Abdul Maleque, senior officer of Bogura Fire service station.

The fire incident occurred when the machine was in operation, but it was not confirmed how the fire erupted, said Santahar Municipality Mayor Tofazzal Hossain Butto also proprietor of the fire damaged plastic industry.

Thirteen fire-fighting units of Bogura and Naogaon Fire Service brought the fire under control after over three hours of hectic effort, said the fire official.

Jalal Uddin, Officer in charge (OC) of Amdighi police station, however, confirmed that a total of 45 workers were working in the factory. Of them, 40 workers were able to come out from the factory, but five workers remained trapped inside during the incident.

"It is impossible to find out the identity of the victims as the bodies are charred completely," said the OC.

Police have put a barricade within one kilometre from the factory and none are allowed to enter the factory premises.

Deputy Commissioner of Bogura M Ziaul Huq and Police Super Sudip Kumar Chakraborty are now at the spot.
