UN deputy HC for Refugees Kelly in Dhaka

The UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Kelly T Clements arrived in Dhaka on Sunday on a six-day visit to Bangladesh.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Cox’s Bazar confirmed her arrival.

During the visit, she will meet with counterparts from the Government of Bangladesh to discuss the ongoing response for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char, including the need for sustained international support.

The deputy high commissioner will also meet with Rohingya people for a direct and in-depth understanding of current needs, challenges and hopes for the future.

Additionally, she will hold discussions with donors, civil society groups and partner organizations working on the refugee response. Indrika Ratwatte, UNHCR Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific will accompany her during the visit.

This is her third mission to Bangladesh as Deputy High Commissioner. She previously worked for UNHCR in Cox’s Bazar early in her career.
