Eid celebrated

After a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people have celebrated the holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, in a festive manner.

The three-day-long Eid was celebrated in a much more normal situation this year amid the decreasing number of the virus infection.

With due solemnity, fervour and gaiety, the festival was celebrated on the first day of Shawwal in Hijri calendar as Ramadan, the holy month of fasting, ended on Monday. The first Eid jamaat at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque was held at 7:00am on Tuesday.

The second Eid jamaat, led by Hafez Mufti Muhibullah Baki Nadvi, was held at 8am. Dr Maolana Abu Saleh Patowari led the third jamaat at 9:00am while Hafez Maolana Ehsanul Haque and Maolana Muhiuddin Kashem the fourth and fifth jamaat respectively at 10am and 10:45am. The first Eid Jamaat at the National Eidgah in Dhaka was held at 8:30am.

On the day before Eid-ul-Fitr, the capital that is usually bustling with crowds and chaos has emptied out, leaving the streets barren and devoid of pedestrians and commuters.

Massive crowds were seen at the National Eidgah to offer their Eid prayers with friends and family. People surge the recreation centres including National Zoo, Hatirjheel and different amusement centres.

The smiles have returned to the faces of tourism related traders in Cox’s Bazar this Eid after two consecutive years of ban on covid-19. They are thinking that they will be able to do business over hundred crore during this Eid holidays.

Over 500 hotels, motels, guest houses and cottages are in Cox’s Bazar. All of which are now almost occupied, according to the tourism industry people. Form the morning, Muslims gathered at mosques and other congregation venues to say their Eid prayers and greet each other. After days of heat wave, heavy rains brought relief among people in different districts in the morning of the Eid day.
