JS body for mandatory STPs in urban areas

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Public Works today recommended taking effective measures to set up compulsory sewerage treatment plants (STPs) in all the urban development authorities and in the areas under their jurisdictions.

The recommendation was placed at a meeting of the committee with Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, chairman of the committee, in the chair, said a release.

Committee members - Housing and Public Works state minister Sharif Ahmed, Narayan Chandra Chand, Md Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, Syeda Johra Alauddin and Farida Khanam attended the meeting.

The progress and implementation of the decisions, taken in the 21st meeting, were discussed in the meeting in detail.

The meeting also suggested evicting the shack shops from Cox’s Bazar beach area and sending letters to every hatchery, hotel and establishments there to ensure a mandatory sewerage treatment plant (STP), added the release.

The details of the overall work progress of the Department of Public Works, RAJUK, National Housing Authority, CDA, Cox’s Bazar Development Authority, RDA, KDA, Urban Development Directorate, Department of Architecture and Housing and Building Research Institute were discussed at the meeting.
