6 die as bus hits auto-rickshaw in Chattogram

Six people were killed in a road accident at Bhayar Dighir Par of Patiya in Chattogram on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway on Monday night.

Two of the six deceased were husband and wife. They are Biswajit Sen, 45 and his wife Rupna Sen, 40, residents of Mohammadpur village under Chandnaish of the district.

The rest deceased were identified as Shubh Dhar, 28, hailed from Gachbaria Banik Para under Chandhanish upazila, Sabbir Hossain, 26, of Rashidabad village in Patiya upazila, Rezaul Karim alias Rafiq, 45, hailed from Kamal Munsir Hat area and CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Md Ishmail, 50.

All the victims were passengers of the auto-rickshaw.

SM Rashidul Haque, superintendent of police in Chattogram, said six people including a woman were killed while some 10 others were injured in the accident at 8:30pm.

The auto-rickshaw was crushed while the bus plunged into a roadside paddy field after the accident, he added.

The injured passengers were admitted to Patiya Upazila Health Complex.
