Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has become a fallen political party after being repeatedly rejected by the country’s people.
“Avoiding the path of politics, they (BNP leaders) are trying to capture the state power through conspiracy,” he said in a statement issued to condemn and protest the misleading remarks of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the people have never responded to the call of the BNP’s movement but the BNP leaders are still daydreaming to wage a movement against the government.
“The BNP never considers the people as the source of power. But they continue their ill-efforts to implement intrigues by misleading the people aiming to gain their political interest,” he said.
Responding to the allegation of Fakhrul that the fascist ruling is now prevailing in the country, the AL general secretary said the BNP is the founder of fascist reign and politics in this country.
He said military dictator Ziaur Rahman, who grabbed the state power through killing-coup-plot, violating the country’s constitution, had introduced fascism in the country’s politics.
Quader said following the footsteps of Ziaur Rahman, his successor Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman tried to annihilate the Awami League through a terrible grenade attack on August 21 in 2004.
The Awami League is firmly committed to establishing the rule of law in the country as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ensured the culture of justice, overcoming the country’s long culture of impunity, he said.
At the same time, the road transport and bridges minister said, multidimensional measures were implemented to establish an independent judiciary here.
