A Cyber Tribunal in Chattogram on Monday afternoon granted bail to Kazi Jahedul Hasan, managing director of Deepto TV and the Kazi Farms Group.
Cyber Tribunal Chattogram Judge Zahirul Kabir granted the bail in the afternoon in a case filed under ICT Act, said Public Prosecutor Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury.
The case was filed under Section 57 (2) of the Information and Communication Technology Act against four persons including the managing director of Deepto TV and they surrendered before the court on the day at the order of the High Court. The court then sent the four to jail, Mejbah said.
Later, the accused filed a bail application and the court granted Kazi Jahedul Hasan bail on the grounds of his illness. A hearing on the bail applications of the remaining three will be held on Tuesday.
The other accused are - Kazi Group Director Kazi Zahin Hasan, its Chief Operating Officer Kazi Urfi Ahmed and Anisur Rahman sent to jail.
The case was filed in 2016 for reporting on Deepto Television against Mujibur Rahman, one of the owners of Sanowara Group and the son of former minister for expatriate welfare and overseas employment Nurul Islam BSc. Jahangir Alam, manager of Sanwara Poultry and Hatchery Limited, filed a case against them under the Information and Communication Technology Act.
According to the complaint, Deepto Television broadcast defamatory and false news about former minister Nurul Islam BSc and his son Mujibur Rahman on March 16 and March 22, 2016.
On April 5, 2016, a case was filed with Chawkbazar Police Station under Section 57 (2) of the Information and Communication Technology Act.
