Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam has said the impacts of climate change force some 2,000 people to migrate to the capital every day.

He said the impacts include natural disasters in different areas, such as floods and cyclones, as well as a rise in sea level in coastal areas.

“Meanwhile, the urban dwellers have been experiencing adverse environmental effects. All in the city are potentially exposed to climate impacts,” he said.

The mayor was speaking at a discussion titled “Together for Climate” held at a hotel in Dhaka on Wednesday evening, a press release said.

The programme was arranged by the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, commonly known as HSBC, in collaboration with DNCC.

While addressing the programme as the chief guest, Atiqul also urged all to behave responsibly to protect the environment of Dhaka city.
