A businessman was allegedly stabbed to death by a snatcher inside a private bank ATM booth in Dhaka while the victim was counting money after withdrawal in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sharif Ullah, 44, a trader of tiles.

Police arrested the snatcher who was identified as Md Abdus Samad, 38, and recovered a blood-stained knife from his possession relating to the incident.

“The incident took place at an ATM booth of Dutch-Bangla Bank located on Sonargaon Janapath Road at Uttara Sector-11 around 12:30am,” said Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara west police station, reports BSS.

After the incident, local people caught the alleged snatcher and handed him over to the police, said the OC.

Police said the businessman, who was on his way home, entered the booth and withdrew money.

The snatcher all of a sudden swooped on Sharif with a sharp knife when he was counting the cash.

At one stage, Sharif fell down on the floor and the security guard of the ATM booth shouted and caught the snatcher with the help of locals when he tried to flee.

Sharif was rushed to a local hospital where the on-duty physician declared him dead.
