Govt approves another pvt univ

The government has approved another private university named ‘Chattogram BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology’.

The education ministry’s secondary and higher education division issued an order on Wednesday giving temporary approval to set up the private university in Chattogram.

Earlier, the ministry sent a letter to the university’s trusty board Chairman Nasir Uddin Chowdhury giving temporary approval to run the institution.

With this, the number of private universities in the country now stands at 109.

The approval has been given under the Private University Act 2010 subject to fulfilment of some conditions.

The conditions include at least 25,000 sq ft of own or rented space, at least three faculties and six departments, adequate classrooms, a library, permission from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and full-time qualified teachers for each department and course.

The university must design a curriculum plan and get it approved by the UGC, according to the official letter.
