A three-year-old girl got a safety pin stuck in her throat while eating noodles at her house in Natore on Thursday.

Sohana Akter Zidni, daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Barabaghpara area in Lalpur upazila, was taken to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) where she was undergoing treatment.

Hasan Ali, cousin of Zidni, said the child’s mother Julekha Begum was feeding her noodles in the afternoon.

At some point, Zidni had something stuck in her throat and expressed discomfort. Later, she started vomiting and became ill.

The girl was first rushed to a local clinic where she had an X-ray that showed a safety pin stuck in her throat. Afterwards, she was admitted to the RMCH.

“It is unclear how the safety pin got stuck in her throat, or whether it was in the water or the noodles she was being fed,” Hasan added.

On Friday morning, physician Nazmul Hasan examined Zidni and said that she needs surgery.

As the hospital lacks the necessary equipment, the doctor suggested taking the child to Dhaka for treatment as soon as possible.
