Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman on Saturday said it will take another 50 years to get the impact of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
Stating that although it may take a long time, there is nothing to fear, the minister said, “It is a matter of global management and we have to keep pace with the world. We have to move forward. Politicians have a big role in preparing for it as it will revolve around the economy.”
He made the remarks at a programme organised by the Knowledge-Based Social Movement (KBSM) in the capital’s National Press Club on ‘Dhaka Declaration’ which aims to take on the challenges of 4IR.
KBSM President MA Barnik presented the 25 points of the Dhaka Declaration. Chairman of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department of Dhaka University Dr Shamim Ahmed Deowan was also present.
According to the declaration, “With the touch of the fourth industrial revolution, everything will be automated, and many people will drop out of their professions. As a result, the career crisis will be at all levels of professions. Therefore, the employees of each organisation must be up-skilled and adapt.”
Calling for a radical change in the education system to introduce technology-based education and develop skilled human resources suitable for the fourth industrial revolution, the declaration further recommended that classrooms need to adapt technology and the curriculum needs to be redesigned.
It also recommended establishing an artificial intelligence centre in the country alongside keeping up with the world and adopting robotic civilisation step by step.
Noting that we are lagging in anti-hacking strategies, the declaration proposed that the recruitment of high-quality experts is essential to strengthening the protection wall of digital reserves of all banks in the country including Bangladesh Bank.
It also proposed establishing a National Action Research Centre (NARC) to create a database of all government and non-government staff.
