Today marks the fifth death anniversary of language veteran Kazi Rezai Karim.
Marking the day, a milad mehfil will be held after the Asar prayers in Kanchpur of Narayanganj for the peace of his departed soul, said a press release issued on Friday. In 1952, during the language movement, he was arrested in Narayanganj. At that time, he was a student of class ten.
In his early career, he was an officer of East Pakistan Railway. After the independence in 1971, he had worked for several jute mills under the BJMC.
Kazi Rezai Karim was the youngest son of Maulvi Yeasin Kazi Sahitya Ratna, a senior member of the Calcutta Bengali Muslim Parishad and the first proponent of Bengali as the national language.
Kazi Rezai Karim is the father of journalist, columnist and organizer Kazi Azizul Islam.
