The Anti-Corruption Commission has traced illegal wealth worth Tk 11 crore of Md Delwar Hossain Delu alias Casino Delu, president of committees of three markets in Dhaka’s downtown Gulistan.
Delwar heads the committees of City Plaza, Nagar Plaza and Zaker Plaza markets. ACC sources said Delwar’s illegal assets include 16 shops in the three markets in the Phulbaria near Gulistan, a second home in Malaysia, and a commercial space of 8,440 square feet on the 15th floor of Pritam Zaman Tower Purana Paltan in the name of his daughter.
Following the ACC findings, the anti-graft body’s assistant director M Jafar Shibly filed a case on Sunday with its integrated district office in Dhaka under Anti-Corruption Commission Act-2004 and Money Laundering Prevention Act-2012.
According to the case statement, Delwar submitted his wealth statement to the ACC on October 27 showing his immovable wealth worth Tk 6.7 crore and moveable wealth worth Tk 1.19 crore.
However, after scrutinising all related documents of Delwar Hossain, the commission in its enquiry found that his moveable and immovable assets worth Tk 11.58 crore.
Against his wealth, the commission found legal sources of the income of only Tk 55.31 lakh of Delu and he amassed the rest of his wealth beyond known sources of his income. Delwar has been on the run since the start of the anti-casino drive in the country in 2019.
