AL relives MP Pankaj from all party posts

The Awami League has relieved its member of parliament for the Barishal 4 constituency, Pankaj Debnath, from all posts of the party for breaching party discipline.

The party’s office secretary Biplab Barua in a letter informed the lawmaker of the decision and asked him to come up with his version in writing in 15 days.

The letter read, “Awami League’s central working committee as per the authority vested in it by the party constitution has relieved you from all the party positions including member of the advisory council of Barishal District unit Awami League for breaching party discipline.”

Pankaj acknowledged receiving the letter on Saturday and declined to comment further.

Copies of the letter were also sent to Barisal district unit Awami League president Abul Hasnat Abdullah and General Secretary Adv Talukdar Md Yunus.

Talukdar Md Yunus said he also received a letter from the party that informed him of relieving Pankaj from all party posts.

Yunus said Pankaj resorted to anti-organisational activities to establish his supremacy over the Mehendiganj unit of Awami League.
