Fellow politicians and party activists on Monday bade farewell to the deputy leader of the Jatiya Sangsad, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, paying their last tributes to her at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
The mortal remains of Sajeda Chowdhury, a members on the ruling Awami League’s presidium, were brought to the Central Shaheed Minar at 2:30pm for people from all walks of life to pay their respects.
Various organisations and individuals and institutions paid tribute there.
On behalf of President Abdul Hamid, his Military Secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam placed a wreath on her coffin. Major General Kabir Ahmed, military secretary of the prime minister, also placed a wreath on her behalf.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Shireen Sharmin Chowdhury also paid tribute there.
After paying tribute, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, “She was a brave leader in the crisis of the party. She was an ideal soldier of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and a very trusted colleague of r Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
From Shaheed Minar, her body was taken to Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the afternoon. Awami League’s associate and front organisations paid tribute to Sajeda Chowdhury there.
Later, the valiant freedom fighter was buried in the Banani graveyard with state honours after a funeral prayer at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Earlier in the morning, the first funeral prayer was held at MN Academy School premises in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda.
