At least seven leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were injured in at attack allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League on the Dhaka University campus on Tuesday.
Some activists of BCL attacked JCD activists when they tried to enter the campus through Nilkhet to submit a memorandum to the university’s vice chancellor on various problems of the university and different dormitories, said witnesses.
A JCD team was supposed to meet the vice chancellor at his office around 4:15pm.
BCL also declared a programme to meet the vice chancellor at his office at 3:00pm to talk about the food quality of hall canteens.
BCL activists started gathering at different points of the campus since morning to prevent JCD leaders and activists from entering the campus. As the JCD leaders came to campus, the BCL activists surrounded them and started beating with sticks.
Oli Ahmed, joint secretary of DU unit JDC, said that at least seven leaders and activists suffered head injuries and they are now admitted to Islami Bank Hospital. “We took appointment from the vice chancellor and informed the proctor and they assured us of providing security. Only our leaders went there but they attacked us all of a sudden,” he said
Later, Sir AF Rahman Hall Chhatra League and Bijoy Ekattor Hall activist took position at the Nilkhet intersection chanting slogans, ‘We will take the skin of Chhatra Dal off. We won’t let Chhatra Dal enter our campus.’
DU unit BCL general secrtary Sanjit Das, however, claimed that there was no activist of BCL during the attack
on JCD.
