A Rohingya youth Mohammad Hashim, 20, resorted to Facebook Live to narrate why and how he killed four Rohingya leaders in camps in Ukhiya of Cox's Bazar in the last month.

A gun-wielding Hashim appeared on Facebook Live on Tuesday evening and claimed to be a member of the organisation Islami Mahaj and went on to describe how and why he killed the four leaders.

Hashim did not mention where the video was filmed but camp residents said the surroundings indicate that the house was in a Rohingya camp.

According to his alleged testimony, the organisation Islamic Mahaj armed 25 youths in the camp paying them huge amounts of money to implement the killing missions.

Hashim, in the video, mentioned Zafar of Camp-18, Ismail of Camp-7 Ershad and Azimullah of Kutupalong Extension Camp by name and confessed to their murders.

Hashim also mentioned the names of Islami Mahaj's top leaders – Shahab Uddin, Rahmat Ullah, head majhi Bhuiyan, Maulvi Rafiq, Quader, and Khairul.

Hashim also said they had an even bigger mission ahead but he has realised his mistake and wants to return to a normal life.

Meanwhile, the video of Hashim went viral on social media triggering panic among the Rohingya leaders in the camps.

A police officer wishing to be unnamed said the group known as Islami Mahaj committed various crimes in Rohingya camps earlier. Raids are on to arrest them, he added.

Farooq Ahmed, additional superintendent of police of 8 APBn, which is assigned for ensuring security at Rohingya camps, said they have seen the video and after an investigation, actions will be taken against those whom Hashim mentioned in the video. “We remain alert to ensure security at the camps. We have also increased our vigilance,” he added.
