The Ministry of Social Welfare in a gazette on September 25 revealed the new policy on the “National Human Welfare Padak”.
It said the award would be given to recognise notable contributions to social welfare, social work for developing humanity, and establishing social justice.
The government will give the award every year according to the policy while the country will observe the National Social Service Day on January 2 or any other day fixed beforehand.
The award is similar to a national award. Five individuals or organisations in five categories will be recognised for their notable contributions to their respective fields.
Each of the recipients will be given an 18-karat, 25gm gold medal; a replica of the award; a cheque of Tk 2 lakh; and a certificate of honour.
The gazette said the award would be given for contributions to welfare and rehabilitation of elderly women, widows or those subjected to domestic violence; social protection; and self-reliance and employment of the marginalised and disadvantaged people.
The award will also recognise notable contributions to welfare, improving quality of life, employment, inclusive education, and social protection of people with disabilities and neuro-developmental disorders.
Besides, the award will recognise contributions to the welfare, betterment, and rehabilitation of disadvantaged children, freed prisoners, vagabonds, and homeless people.
The gazette also mentioned the eligibility for the award. The award was earlier named “Mother of Humanity Social Welfare Padak”, which was approved in 2018. A draft policy was also made at the time.
