The World Standards Day will be observed today in Bangladesh as elsewhere across the globe with the theme ‘Shared vision for a better world – Standards for SDGs’.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occassion.
President Abdul Hamid said the primary responsibility of the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) is to formulate product standards and ensure implementation of those standards.
As member of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the BSTI has been playing an important role in formulating and controlling standards in all aspects of production, sales and marketing of products in Bangladesh by following “international standards”, the president said.
Marking the day, the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution has organised several programmes as a national standards body. It has organised discussions at its head office, regional and district offices as a part of this programme.
Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will telecast special programme detailing significance of the day.
On the other hand, different important places of capital city are being decorated by banner, festoon and placard.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun will attend the BSTI’s discussion at its headquarters on October 16 where state minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, the ministry secretary Zakia Sultana and FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin will also be present.
