Over 12 lakh students to sit for HSC exam from Nov 6

This year’s Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will begin on November 6 under 11 education boards across the country.

A total of 1,203,407 students – 622,769 boys and 580,611 girls – are expected to sit for the exams at 2,649 centres, from 9,181 educational institutes across the country.

However, some 1,399,690 students sat for HSC and equivalent exams in 2021.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni came up with the information at a press conference on Wednesday at her ministry ahead of the public exams.

She said all coaching centres across the country will remain closed from November 3 to December 14 with a view to preventing question paper leaking.

The theory tests of the exams will end on December 13 and the practical exams will start on December 15 and will end on December 22.

The HSC and equivalent examinations for 2022 will be shorter, with fewer total marks, as per the education ministry’s directives.

The exams will be two hours long —20 minutes for the MCQ part and 1 hour and 40 minutes for the written part. Before the pandemic, the HSC and equivalent exams were three hours long.

However, Dipu Moni said the HSC and equivalent exams will be held in all subjects with full marks under the revised syllabus from 2023.

Education Ministry data shows that 9,85,713 students are expected to sit for HSC exams from 2,678 colleges under nine general education boards, 94,763 students sit for the Alim exam from 2,678 Madrasah under the Madrasah education board and 1,22,931 students will sit for HSC exam from 1,856 institutions under Technical education board.

No one, including politicians and other influential personalities, will be allowed to enter the exam halls. Only examinees, invigilators, monitoring teams from the ministry and boards, district and upazila officials, and law enforcers can enter the exam halls.

All examinees have been requested to enter their respective exam halls 30 minutes before the starting time. Bringing in mobile phones is strictly prohibited for the examinees. Only respective officials of the exam centres can use cell phones.

Students would be allowed to use only general and scientific calculators but no calculating devices having other applications.

The SSC and HSC exams are usually held in February and April respectively but the government had to defer both exams this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and flood in the country.

In 2021, the SSC and HSC exams were held in November and December 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
