The government has cancelled the contractual appointment of Md Shahidul Islam as Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States.
The decision came into effect on September 1 this year, said the Public Administration Ministry on Thursday in a gazette notification.
The decision was taken considering the application submitted by Shahidul, said the ministry.
Shahidul, a career foreign service officer belonging to 1985 batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Foreign Affairs cadre, was appointed as the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the USA on September 3 in 2020.
He served as the Secretary General of BIMSTEC before joining as Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA. In his diplomatic career, he served in Bangladesh Missions in Kolkata, Geneva and Washington DC.
He also served as Ambassador of Bangladesh to South Korea and France. At the headquarters, he worked in various capacities including Director General (Americas) and Director General (Europe). Asked about the cancellation, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said it was done through a normal process and there has been no allegation against him.
