The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested a gang of five people including its leader for selling train tickets out of the counter illegally.
The gang’s leader Md Salim, 48, and members Shah Alam, 34, Md Liton, 35, Rashid Fakir, 30, and Khokon Mia, 58, were arrested at Kamlapur railway station area in Dhaka on Thursday.
RAB-3 Commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed said they also seized 88 train tickets, four mobile phones and Tk 18,447 in cash from them.
He said that Salim and his other associates stood in a queue at the railway station and collected four tickets each showing NID cards. Besides that, they also collect tickets online using different NID cards and mobile numbers.
Afterwards, they started selling tickets out of the counter at a higher price two hours before the departure of a train. Their asking price kept increasing even reached double with the departure time coming closer, he said.
During primary interrogation, RAB came to know that this gang has been extorting money from passengers through black marketing tickets of various trains at Kamalapur railway station, said Arif.
He said Salim told them that during the last Eid-ul-Azha they sold a ticket of Tk 500 at a maximum price of Tk 2,000.
