Drives have been continuing in the Chittagong Hill Tracts to arrest fleeing members of the new Islamist militant group Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya and the armed members of the Kuki Chin National Front, said Rapid Action Battalion on Sunday.
The RAB could ascertain identities of the top echelon of the Jamatul Ansar including its amir but they are yet to gather details on them, said RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Commander Khandaker Al Moin.
“We have come to know that this new militant group is running with the money of various local people. We are working on it,” he said at a press briefing.
Moin said they earlier arrested 12 others during separate raids in Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, and Dhaka’s Jatrabari and Keraniganj on October 6 and 10, following an investigation into missing youths who had left their homes to join Jamatul Ansar.
