The law and order situation in Bangladesh and the United Kingdom is similar as both countries got the same score, 79, on the Global Law and Order Index 2022.
Apart from the two countries, Algeria, Moldova, Greece, and Kyrgyzstan scored 79 on the index.
Bangladesh also managed to improve its position among the 120 countries included in the 2022 index as it scored 77 on the previous one. The higher a country scores on the index, the better is its law and order situation.
However, Bangladesh’s score on the 2020 index was 81, meaning the law and order situation deteriorated in the period the 2021 index is based on.
The 2022 index report was released on Wednesday, which took into account last year’s law and order situation of the participating countries.
Three South Asian countries – Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India – are ahead of Bangladesh on the 2022 index. Pakistan scored 82 while both Sri Lanka and India secured 80.
Nepal lagged behind Bangladesh on the index with a score of 78. Bhutan and the Maldives were not included in the report while Afghanistan scored the lowest, 51, emerging as the least safe country.
Gabon (54), Venezuela (55), the Democratic Republic of Congo (58), and Sierra Leone (59) preceded Afghanistan respectively.
Singapore scored 96 and topped the index, followed by Tajikistan (95), Norway (93), Switzerland (92), and Indonesia (92).
Among other countries, the score of the United States is 83 while Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates secured 77, 89, and 92 respectively.
The index score is determined based on a few questions. For example, whether residents feel safe walking alone at night in their neighbourhood or whether they trust the local police.
Being a victim of theft, robbery, or assault was also taken into consideration in determining the score.
