Dipu Moni for caution in recruiting questioners, moderators

More caution should be exercised in appointing questioners and moderators for making question papers of public examinations in the future, said Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Wednesday.

“We have to be more careful in assigning questioners and moderators of question papers of the public exams,” she said, while talking to media after a discussion programme at the National Museum seeking UN recognition of ‘genocide’ during the Liberation War of 1971.

“All education boards should be more vigilant in this regard and we need to do better in our system”, said Dipu Moni suggested.

The government will take action against the people who were involved in making and editing ‘controversial’ Bangla first paper Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) question paper that allegedly invoked communal insensitivity, after getting a probe report, the minister said.

“Our questioners and moderators get adequate trainings and guidelines. Despite this, if someone does such mistake, it is grossly due to negligence or willful,” she stated.

Dipu Moni said, “We are investigating the matter. None will be spared if it was caused due to negligence or committed willfully. We will take action accordingly.”

Number 11 question of creative section in Bangla first paper question paper under the Dhaka Education Board this year stated about a land dispute between two siblings of Hindu community which allegedly invoked communal insensitivity.

The question states that a younger brother sold off a piece of land to a Muslim buyer aiming to wreak vengeance on his elder brother. The Muslim buyer then started living on the land and slaughtered a cow during Muslim festival Eid-ul-Azha. Later, the younger brother, brokenhearted by the incident, left his land and moved to India.

Earlier, five teachers were spotted who allegedly were involved in making the question paper and a three-member probe body was formed led by Jashore Education Board’s college inspector KM Rabbani on Tuesday which will submit report within seven working days.
