Three more Sharqiya members held

A team of the Rapid Action Battalion on Wednesday arrested three more members of the new militant outfit Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya from Signboard area of Narayanganj.

The arrestees are Abdul Hadi alias Sumon alias John (40), Abu Saeed alias Sher Mohammad (32) and Roni Mia (29). RAB members seized three extremist books, nine leaflets and two bags from their possession.

RAB’s spokesperson Commander Khandaker Al Moin disclosed the information at a media briefing on Wednesday at Karwan Bazar in the capital.

Moin said arrested Abdul Hadi used to teach at a madrasa in Sunamganj and joined this group one and a half years ago.

He donated Tk9 lakh to Rakib, a Shura member of the group and head of the financial branch, for organizational activities three months ago. Abdul Hadi used to contribute Tk20, 000 per month to the group.

Abu Saeed was involved in teaching and supervising activities of Sharia Graduation Institute online. He was inspired to get involved in extremism one and a half years ago.

He donated Tk7 lakh to Rakib for organizational activities two months ago. He also used to pay Tk30,000 per month and collect this money from various people by asking them to support his shariah institutes, mosques, madrasas and orphanages, said Moin.

Rony is an eighth grader from a local school. Later he started mobile banking business in Narayanganj. He was inspired by extremist idea one year ago by his childhood friend Al-Amin.

RAB also found a mother Ambia Sultana alias Emily of another Islamist militant. She motivated her only child Abu Bakr Riasad Rayan (15) in the name of so-called Hijrat for training and sent him to Bandarban.

As RAB members talked to her on 05 November she realized her mistake but they were yet to arrest Rayan.

Ambia realized her mistake, said RAB in a press briefing on Wednesday after the arrests of the three militants.
