Yunus faces 8 fresh cases

A total of eight cases were filed against Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus and its Managing Director Ashraful Hasan on charges of violation of labour law.

Eight former officials of the Grameen Telecom filed the cases with third Labour Court in Dhaka on November 9 under section 213 of labour law demanding the company’s dividend, said complainants’ lawyer Barrister HM Sanjid Siddique.

He also said that the court accepted the case and directed authorities of the Grameen Telecom to submit its statement by January 15, 2023 over the allegations.

According to the allegation, the eight officials worked in Grameen Telecom from 2006 to 2009. But they were deprived of the company’s dividend in the financial years 2006-2009.

As per the Labour Act, 5 per cent of the company’s dividend shall be paid to the workers’ welfare fund from the date of the Labour Act comes into force. But they did not pay the facility.
