Probe ends against 2 Al-Badrs

The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal has finalised its report on investigation into the crimes against humanity allegedly committed by two Al-Badr leaders of Gopalpur in Tangail.

The two accused Moniruzzaman Kohinur, 70, of Beradakuri and Alamgir Hossain Talukdar, 67, of Chatutia in Gopalpur.

“Of the two, Kohinur was the Tangail district commander of notorious Al-Badr Bahini and surrendered with his Pakistani masters on December 16, 1971. He was taken to India as prisoner of war and was in Jabbalpur Prisons in India till 1974. After that he was released under Shimla Agreement and went to Pakistan. He took Pakistani passport and started living in Japan with it,” investigator Md Sanaul Haque said at a press briefing held at its Dhanmandi office.

Kohinur secretly came to Bangladesh and in 2002 took the citizenship here.

“Alamgir was also an Al-Badr operative and took part in crimes against humanity in Tangail,” he added.
