Former Tangail municipality mayor Sahidur Rahman Khan Mukti again failed to secure bail in a case filed over the murder of valiant Freedom Fighter and Awami League leader Faruq Ahmed.
“A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Atabullah on Wednesday returned a plea of the former mayor for bail in the case as the state opposed the petition vehemently,” Deputy Attorney General Shahin Ahmed Khan told newsmen.
Mukti is the brother of former Tangail-3 lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, who is also the prime accused in the case. He surrendered before a court in 2020 after staying in hiding for six years.
Bullet-riddled body of Tangail district Awami League leader Faruq Ahmed was found near his house on January 18, 2013. His wife Nahar Ahmed filed the case against unidentified miscreants with Tangail Sadar Police Station.
