Moonshine strikes Kishoreganj AL

Four people including two local leaders of Awami League died after drinking spurious liquor in Kuliarchar municipality in Kishoreganj on Monday, while the mayor who was backed by AL is now on life support.

The deceased were identified as Gias Uddin, organizing secretary of Kuliarchar upazila unit Awami League, its assistant organizing secretary Zahir Raihan, and two others Gobinda Das and Shahjahan Mia.

Habibur Rahman, panel mayor of Kuliarchar municipality who is also a member of the upazila AL, was sent to Dhaka for treatment where he is now on life support.

Md Golam Mostafa, officer-in-charge of Kuliarchar Police Station, said all of them fell sick after having 'toxic liquor' in the night.

Later, they were taken to the local hospital where they died early Monday.

"The actual reason behind their deaths will be known from physicians," said OC.
