Jamaat chief denied bail in militancy case

A Dhaka court on Tuesday dismissed a bail petition of Jamaat-e-Islami amir Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman in a case lodged with the capital’s Jatrabari Police Station for his alleged involvement in militancy.

Dhaka 1st Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Foysal Atik Bin Qader passed the order after holding hearing on the matter.

The Jamaat chief was placed on remand twice in the case.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested the Jamaat chief from the capital’s Basundhara area on December 12, 2022.

Earlier, police arrested his son Dr Rafat Chowdhury, alleged chief coordinator of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam’s Sylhet region, in this case.
