Five injured in Moghbazar blast

At least five people were injured in an explosion in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on Tuesday.

The blast occurred at around 9:45am in front of a medicine store in the Moghbazar Wireless area and the injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Hasan said.

The injured are Saiful Islam, 36, Tareq, 20, Abul Kalam, 25, Md Shaheen, 30, and Akhil, 16.

“We are looking into whether it was a crude bomb or anything else,” said Abul Hasan.

The injured are now receiving treatment at the hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in charge of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost.

“All are out of danger,” he added.

Saiful, an inhabitant of Basabo’s Sabujbag area, told The Business Post that on Tuesday morning, he was on his way to Agrani Apartments in Moghbazar– where he works. There was an explosion just as he was walking past the Ujjal hotel.

Meanwhile, Shaheen said he was working as a labourer for the Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) when the explosion happened.

Fire Service and Civil Defences control room duty officer Rakibul Hasan said, “Two of our units went to the location after receiving information about an explosion at Moghbazar wireless intersection.
