Life-term convict in murder case held in city

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a fugitive convict, who was sentenced to life term imprisonment in a murder case, from the city's Hatirjheel area on Thursday night.

The arrested was identified as Md Helal, 30, son of Md Shamchu Miah of Noapara village of Chauddagram thana of Cumilla district.

Commanding Officer of RAB 3, Lt Col Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter to BSS, saying that based on secret information, a team of RAB 3 arrested him by raiding the area around 7 pm.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Media) of RAB-3 Farzana Haque said a case was filed against Helal following the murder of a person over a Ludo game dispute, with Chauddagram thana in 2015.

In that case, the Cumilla court sentenced him to life term imprisonment in 2018, she added.

The RAB official said that necessary legal action has been taken against him.
