Brahmanbaria Bar tainted judicial history: HC

The High Court while hearing a case over some Brahmanbaria lawyers' misbehaviour with a judge inside courtroom, on Tuesday said the Brahmanbaria Bar Association has tainted the country's judicial history.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil came up with the observation as three accused lawyers, including the president of the bar Adv Md Tanvir Ahmed Bhuiyan, secretary (admin) Adv Md Akkas Ali, and Adv Zubayer Islam appeared before the court today.

Supreme Court Bar Association President Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir and its Secretary Md Abdun Nur Dulal, senior advocates Mohammad Sayeed Ahmed Raja and Shah Manjurul Haque appeared for the accused lawyers.

Pleading for one-month more time, Advocate Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir said the matter is heading for a peaceful solution and Brahmanbaria court has started its operation from today.

"We have some more things to do. Everything will be resolved. Please give us one month more time," he pleaded.

In reply, the court said, "You are just wasting time. You have to face the consequences. It's your choice whether you are going to reply the rule or not. We would proceed on. You have kept a court, a constitutional institution, nonfunctional. Brahmanbaria Bar Association stained the country's judicial history. It has stigmatized all the lawyers."

Later the court set February 26 for further hearing on the matter.
