3 cops testify against Mamunul in rape case

Three police officials on Wednesday testified in a rape case filed against former joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam Maolana Mamunul Haque.

Sub-inspectors Karna Kumar, Sheikh Farid and Motiur Rahman submitted their depositions at Narayanganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal as prosecution witness number 16, 17 and 18.

Judge Nazmul Haque Shyamol later adjourned the hearing of the case till April 25, public prosecutor Rakibuddin Ahmed told BSS. Mamunul was produced before the court for the hearing today and was later sent to jail. A total of 18 prosecution witnesses so far testified in the case.

Locals on April 3, 2021, held Mamunul with a woman at Sonargaon Royal Resort in Narayanganj. Later, activists and supporters of Hefazat-e-Islam came and vandalized the resort and took him away. The woman later filed the rape case against Mamunul on April 30, 2021.
