Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin on Sunday said 113 actions have been identified to deal with 14 types of disasters by dividing Bangladesh into 11 regions under eight sectors in the National Adaptation Plan (NAP).
"Of these, 80 are considered as high priority ones and 23 medium priority actions. To implement the activities identified in the NAP by 2050, we will require about US$ 230 billion," he said.
The environment minister revealed the information at a workshop titled 'Consultation Workshop on Dissemination and Brainstorming of NAP Implementation' at the auditorium of the Department of Environment (DoE) here.
Chaired by Environment Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed the p[rogramme was addressed, among others, by eminent water expert and Professor Emeritus Dr Ainun Nishat, Additional Secretary (Climate Change) of ministry Md Moniruzzaman and DoE Director General Dr Abdul Hamid.
The NAP was presented jointly by Deputy Secretary Dharitri Kumar Sarkar and DoE Director Mirza Shawkat Ali.
The high officials, who were present at the workshop, placed their respective suggestions for implementation of NAP.
Speaking as the chief guest, Shahab Uddin said the plan submitted to the UNFCCC on 31 October 2022 is not only a national report but it will also highlight Bangladesh's position in the global arena in terms of climate adaptation.
